AK Goes Upstate

On September 6-8, we carpooled up to Camp Hilltop in Hancock, New York, for our first ever All Kings weekend. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to all the men who showed up so powerfully and so generously, and to the family and team at Hilltop, for playing such incredible hosts.

The weekend was deep beyond description. Thirty-eight men from around the country joined as volunteer staff, to hold space and lead the process. Included in that group were Eldra Jackson III — watch his TED talk — and Bill Wich, two master facilitators from the Inside Circle, the Folsom County Prison project, plus men with years of experience in similar prison projects in Boston and Wisconsin.

As a team, we brought fourteen local men from across the New York City into our work. The oldest man was seventy-seven. The youngest was eighteen. It was diverse, intergenerational, and beautiful.

Next up is our 12-week mentorship cycle, our weekly circles, and group outings. We’ll post details on that now. For the moment, we’ll just say that our work is community-building. And so we understand the weekends are just the beginning. But man, what a beginning.
