The Work: Film & Fundraiser

  • NeueHouse Madison Square 110 East 25th Street New York, NY, 10010 United States (map)

Across America a powerful movement has risen, denouncing the violence and inhumanity of our criminal justice system. How can we confront the system and the harm it perpetuates — especially to men?

Join us on Monday, July 25 as we explore this question in the context of a fundraiser, film screening, and public conversation about the prison system and masculine healing.

We'll begin with a free screening of The Work, the acclaimed documentary detailing a four-day intensive group process hosted in Folsom County Prison by Inside Circle, a founding partner of All Kings. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the South by SouthWest film festival, the film highlights the devastating effects of both the American prison system and patriarchal norms.

The screening will be followed by a conversation with film's director (and All Kings co-founder), Gethin Aldous, and organizers supporting conversations and organizations of prison reform and masculine healing.

All Kings has had a powerful spring and summer running weekly circles in Harlem, Brooklyn, and online. We have also held 3 nature-based rites of passage weekends, with over 100 men participating. This evening we will be raising funds for our fall and winter seasons. Your support will drive All Kings forward as we embark on new relationships with large New York reentry organizations and chart a course deep into the criminal injustice system to help more and more men directly impacted by the system.

Doors open at 6:00pm. Film starts at 6:30pm. Seating is limited.

"The Work carries a profound, implicit point about a culture that encourages men to bottle up what they feel, then condemns them after those emotions express themselves in violent, destructive ways." (Onion AV Club)
